SRND conceived, created, directed and produced over 120 minutes of live visual content that threads a story of Weezer on a road trip across America with the dynamics of their performance. The storyline mirrors the journey of the band since their inception and unfolds over a 24 song set list taking the audience across a “Weezer'd” North America and back again.

Assignment

To create visual content for a 24 song setlist on the theme of an “Indie Rock Road Trip” working with long time Weezer fanzine illustrator Alec Longstreth and Production Designer/Show Creator Travis Shirely.

Approach

The Directing duo Brad and Brian Palmer looked at the history of the band and found inspiration in the story of Weezer and used their journey to stardom as the catalyst for the visuals. The team built a narrative frame work around the set list and created piles of storyboards to direct a team of over 14 diverse digital artists and animators to bring this show's content to life. The show content primarily consisted of hundreds of hand drawn animations by long time Weezer fanzine artist Alec Longstreth who work closely with the Directors throughout the entire process.

Result

SRND took their fans on a metaphorical road trip as the band went on a literal road trip across America. In turn, we celebrated the band's history and equally connected with the dynamics of their live performance.
